Swiss Board of Aid
Project in progress: iThemba Home
There are many children in need in East London (Eastern Cape) and the surrounding area who urgently need a home. The currently existing children's homes and places of safety are permanently overcrowded and have to regularly reject children, who then for example have to wait for weeks in hospital for a place. Since the iThemba Family cannot accommodate even more children in their private household, iThemba Home is needed.
The iThemba Home should not only offer orphans, abandoned children and other children in need temporarily and long-term a safe and loving home, but also, if possible and wanted, to their closest caregiver (mother / father / aunt etc.). The placing together with the caregiver should prevent an abrupt brake of the bond and provide the caregiver in need with the necessary support to raise the child independently again in the future if anyhow possible. If a child is placed alone, caregivers of the iThemba Home will care with love and warmth for the child to give the child the opportunity for a hopeful and best possible future. Health knowledge will be thought, love learned and violence prevention trained. iThemba Home should be a school of life for everyone and offer parents and caregivers an opportunity to get their lives on the right track.
A large piece of land is already available for iThemba Home and another place of safety supports the Swiss Board of Aid in the necessary administrative matters. In order to hopefully soon welcome the many waiting children in need and if possible their caregivers to iThemba Home, the Swiss Board of Aid is urgently looking for donations and patronages to be able to build the home and to cover the running costs.
